A practicing emergency medicine physician, Betzelos comes to Blue Care Network after serving in key clinical leadership positions at multiple health care systems throughout the country. Most recently, Betzelos served as chief medical officer at Inova Fairfax, chief executive officer at Inova Medical Group in Northern Virginia and chief clinical officer at ThedaCare in Northern Wisconsin.
Our new Chief Medical Officer Dr. Betzelos joins the Blue Care Network family with more than 28 years of patient care experience. He recently sat down with us to share his insights about combining health care with health quality ― and what that means for you.
How would you describe your role at Blue Care Network?
BCN has a longstanding tradition of providing quality and affordable care in Michigan. I look forward to continuing that commitment to our members. I’ll serve as an advocate on clinical issues and support new, creative programs that ensure each and every member has access to the best physicians, hospitals and outcomes.
What is a priority for member health at Blue Care Network?
As the premier HMO provider in Michigan, Blue Care Network provides innovative health and wellness programs for members. We can strengthen that reputation by continuing to be innovative while focusing on what I call the four “Rs” ― right care, right place, right time and right system.
When we ensure members are receiving care according to the four “Rs” ― whether virtually through telemedicine, in person at the provider’s office or inpatient in the hospital ― we can help reduce their cost of health care. For example, it’s far less costly for someone to go to their primary care provider for flu symptoms than head to the emergency room.
